New Joplin Web Geeks IRC Channel
As many of you know I moved to Joplin, Missiouri a couple of months ago to take a job at CIY. One of the things that I left or sorta left was the IRC channel I helped start in Manhattan, Kansas for Linux Geeks called #K-SLUG (K-State Linux Users Group). It's been a pretty cool group of guys that I've enjoyed hanging out with virtually and in person at the K-Slug lunch get-togethers/meetings.
Even before I moved to Joplin I started looking to see if there was another LUG in Joplin. I did a couple of searches and found J.O.P.L.I.N. listed on KCLUG but nothing about an IRC channel or where they meet. So that's why I've decided to create the channel #joplin-web-geeks. I decided to name it "Joplin Web Geeks" primarily because I'm a web professional first and foremost and I would like to have more of a community of web developers as well as other geeks.
I topiced the channel as…
A channel for Joplin, MO web geeks. This should include web designers, web system admins (except for iis admins, sorry), web programmers and whoever doesn't mind hearing about the things people like this talk about. Being an OSX and Linux fanboy or fangirl doesn't hurt either.
So if you live in or around Joplin. Please feel free to join the channel! If you've never been on IRC I would recommend using Colloquy if you have a Mac, mIRC if you're on windows and XChat if you're on Linux. There are other great IRC programs but I'm recommending these because they are easiest for beginners. The IRC network you need to connect to is, irc.freenode.net and the channel is #joplin-web-geeks. For more information on getting on the IRC channel check out, http://www.k-state.edu/kwag/irc-help.html. You will obviously need to substitute #joplin-web-geeks for #kwag.
