Good Mac Bible Software?

October 7, 2005 | 2:19 p.m. CDT

So I was thinking the other day... I have this nice shiny PowerBook that I don't use that much and I was thinking it would be cool to have some cool Bible Software for it so I could bring my PowerBook to Bible Study and be able to use it during the Bible study.

But when I looked at several of the major Bible Software publishers websites, I could see that they don't have OSX versions. Does anyone out there know of some good OSX Bible Software? I would like the software to have a modern English translation like the NIV with a good concordance, topical index, atlas and some commentaries.

I'm holding out for Logos for Mac. I really like Logos for Windows and would like to have the same software for Mac.

Here's a link to a page with some MAC Bible software suggestions. I've never had a MAC & don't know much about 'em or the available software, so this might not even be close to what you're looking for.

Hi Brent,

My name is Scott Smith and I build the software pages for Christianbook.com. Please don't think I'm spamming you here. That's really my name, and that's really my email address. I was simply searching blogs for comments about Bible software, and found your question about Bible software for the Mac.

I can tell you that QuickVerse (arguably the best-selling Bible software out there), released a Macintosh edition last summer and the reviews so far have been fantastic. It comes in two different editions, and you can compare the contents here.

Again, I know how obnoxious it can be to get "blog spam" and that is not my intent. I simply wanted to offer you and answer to your question. Feel free to email me if I can help you further.

Blessings,

Scott,

Thanks for the information about QuickVerse. I ended up getting QuickVerse for my PowerBook for Christmas. I haven't used it as much as I would like, but initially it looks pretty good.

PS, Your comment would have seemed less like spam if you would have just said I know QuickVerse is pretty good since I work for Christianbook.com and that is mostly what we sell. The, "Please don't think I'm spamming you here..." isn't needed and just makes it sound like spam. Just my two cents! :)

Cheers!

Quick verse had some issues with OS up date around 10.4.4. While it will run on my little tired Ibook G4, it will not run on my dual G5. I contacted quick verse support which told me it should be working. The next call I got (yes CALL) was asking for more money to upgrad the latest greatest. I told him to put me in touch with support to get the current version working and maybe we could talk.

Now I just get junk mail from them. I rate QV 0 our of 5.

llaamaboy, That's too bad you've ran into those issues. I haven't had any problems with it on my PowerBook G4.

Accordance Bible software for the Macintosh is a very well performing and sophisicated package. It has everything in it that a person could possibly want to study God's Word. It is compatible with the latest version of Mac OS.
