Firefox 0.9 Is great after you get the darn thing working

June 17, 2004 | 12:09 a.m. CDT

I've been playing with the new Firefox version 0.9 and I've had a ton of problems. I first tried installing with out uninstalling 0.8. Big mistake! I started getting the error, "firefox.exe - Entry Point Not Found" every time I started Firefox and none of my extensions worked.

Next I tried deleting the Firefox directory out of the "Program Files" directory and then reinstalling Firefox 0.9. After that I started getting the error "Finishing Extension Installation..." when trying to load Firefox 0.9. It would hang on that screen forever. So I killed the Firefox process and started doing some Google searches. After doing some searches I found a post that said they had to delete their Firefox profile out of the "C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox" directory. After doing that and then reinstalling Firefox 0.9 for the hundredth (exaggeration for dramatic effect) time it worked.

Firefox 9.0 doesn't seem like it really has any new features compared to 0.8 but maybe I just haven't discovered them yet. They say it's suppose to be more stable but maybe they are talking about after you finally get the program installed. I guess I can't complain too much since it's free and better than IE in my opinion.

Yeah, upgrading can be crazy. But it's still better than IE! :)

What are your reasons for preferring Firefox over IE?
