Our Fifth Year Wedding Anniversary

July 14, 2004 | 9:22 a.m. CDT

Last Friday my wife and I celebrated our fifth year wedding anniversary. Man I can't believe it! Time flies when you're having fun.

We "need" a new couch so we decided that we would drive to Kansas City to go to the new Nebraska Furniture Mart. I know what you're thinking... "Nebraska Furniture Mart", shouldn't that be in Nebraska? Nebraska Furniture Mart actually got started near Omaha, Nebraska and then decided that Kansas City would be a good place to build a store.

Anyway, we went and looked and we didn't find anything that we liked, which is a surprise considering the store is probably one the biggest furniture stores in the world and probably has hundreds of couches. After looking at the couches we decided or I decided rather to go look in the electronics sections. I was amazed at how many TVs they had. I think they literally had hundreds of TVs and not just any TVs, they had plasma TVs. There was one Sony plasma TV in particular I saw. When I saw it my jaw just dropped and the droll started to flow. This TV had the clearest picture I had ever seen and it was a full 70 inches. Then I saw the price tag of $17,000 and I woke up to reality. Who would pay that much for a TV? It seems like such a waste of money when you think about kids in poverty, etc.

After visiting Nebraska Furniture Mart we headed over to the new Cabela's store that's right next to Nebraska Furniture Mart. I'm not a huge hunting a fishing guy but this store was amazing! And even if you're not in to hunting and fishing that much this store is a store worth taking a look at. There are things to see for everyone. In the fishing part of the store they have a giant aquarium filled with fish from different regions of the United States. The fish they have in the aquarium spectacular! They had several cat fish in the aquarium that had to be at least three to four feet in length. And not to mention the stuffed animals they have through out the store. As you walk into the store you see a giant man made mountain filled with stuffed animals (www). They have animals ranging from giant elephants to tiny little ground hogs. If you're in the Kansas City area, Cabela's is worth the visit (not trying to sound like a commercial).

Next after Cabela's we headed down south to Olathe, Kansas because I heard of a good movie theatre in that area and both my wife and I wanted to go out to eat and see the movie Anchorman.

First we looked around and found a Hotel and after driving around and then asking for directions in best buy (long story) we found a decent hotel. We then went to eat at the Olive Garden. After eating at the Olive Garden we had some time before the movie so went to the Super Target for a little while. I had a lot of fun there but I can't go into a lot of detail so I will just leave you hanging!

We then headed over to the movie theatre and waited in line to buy our ticket for the movie only to get to the ticket agent and discover that Anchorman was sold out. So instead we decided to settle for "Dog Ball" with Ben Stiller. It was an ok movie I guess. It was funny in parts but over all the movie had way to much gratuitous perverted humor.

After the movie we went back to our hotel and then woke up the next morning and headed home. We had a great weekend together and as always I reflect on how I'm the luckiest and most blessed man in the world!
