Can you get fired for having a Blog?
The answer to that question is apparently yes, according to a recent article posted on CNET. Joyce Park is an employee of Friendster whose Blog called Troutgirl apparently got her fired after her Blog was slashdotted and the management found out about it. The managers from Friendster declined to elaborate on the decision.
I managed to find Joyce's Blog Troutgirl and read the articles that she says got her canned. To me there wasn't anything worth firing her over and at the very least they could have just simply asked her to pull those articles from her Blog.
This all leads me to the question. Am I safe having a Blog? Is anyone safe having a Blog that works for a company? I wondered after reading that article if I could get fired for expressing my religious beliefs in my Blog. After all, in my "About" section of my website I have my beliefs about God, Jesus, The Holy Spirit, Revelation and Scripture. Let me hear your comments. If you have Blog, are you going to take it down for fear of getting canned? Or are you just going to be more careful about what you post? Or are you going to take the stance, "to heck with them I'll write what I want to write, they can't silence me?"

I'm very afraid of the blog man keeping me down. That's why I haven't updated for a few years. I'm all kinds of intimidated. Okay not really. Worthless.
First Ammendment, man... First Ammendment. :) Love it, use it and be defended by it!
I was just fired for a blog. Mine was primarily political, but I wrote one short entry six months ago and named a collegue (first name only) in an entry about mediocrity in the workplace. They asked me to take it down and when after I did, they fired me with no notice.
It can happen to you.
Sorry to hear that... That's why I try to watch my p's and q's on this blog.
I was fired for my blog! I complained that I wasn't making enought money and that my schedule sucked, so they told me not to come back.
I was fired for having a blog, i worked for a supermarket. They found out and told me that I was being terminated.
Bummer! What did you say on your blog that they said was the reason they were firing you?
